| Matt Dallas Interview - January 7, 2009 | ||||||
| (The band plays some music while the audience claps. Bonnie Hunt (BH) sits at her desk.)
BH: Wow! Nick, you guys sound like you have a good rest! You sound fantastic today! Our next guest stars in the ABC Family hit original series Kyle XY . Here's a look at him in action. (Clip of "It Happened One Night" (3x01) airs.) It is dark. Kyle realizes he is on the roof and he turns when three thugs open the roof door. Thug #1: There's nowhere to run. (Kyle turns and runs away.) Get him! (They chase after him. He runs up to the edge of the roof and jumps 12 stories down. He lands and is surprised. He glances back at the building and turn around. (end of clip) Audience claps. BH: Wow! Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome the very talented Matt Dallas! (She stands up and removes her glasses. On the balcony, Matt comes out of the second door. He is dressed in a black pullover long-sleeved sweater over a white shirt and black jeans. He waves to the audience amid applause, walks to the pole, leaps on it, and slides down while spinning twice around the pole. He waves both arms in triumphant upon landing. | ||||||
(Matt walks toward Bonnie and they hug. She pats him twice on the back. She waves him to a seat and he walks around her desk to it. He sits in the chair next to Bonnie's desk and crosses his leg.)
Matt: You know, I have to say that the only reason I really did that (points at the pole) was to prove that I can actually do some sort of a stunt. You know, after that giant leap that you guys watched... BH: That's amazing. Matt: I have to say I can actually do some of that. BH: You did. You were fearless. Did you... I mean that's a big leap. I know the pole. I always tell people at home you can't see it on the camera, but it is. Like I haven't done it. Matt: You haven't done it? BH: No, not jumping and sliding down, but... Matt: Once you get up there, it's... BH: All the crew guys, they've all done it. Matt: You come down upside down. BH: Upside down? Matt: Yeah, you know...
BH: Only if I wear a skirt. (Matt laughs with the audience.) Free show! Free show! How was your holiday, mister? What did you do? Matt: My holiday was good. BH: You have a big family, right? Matt: I have a huge family. BH: What do you mean by huge? Matt: Not really huge, but I have a big family. BH: How many siblings? How many brothers and sisters? Matt: I'm the oldest of four, which is not that big. But when you talk about family, I always kind of think extended family as well. So I automatically think like cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents and stuffs like that. BH: Yeah, right. Matt: So I come from a big family. BH: So did you go home? Matt: Not this year. I haven't been home. BH: Where is home? Matt: Home is in Phoenix.
BH: In Phoenix. So did anyone come here? What is it like for your family? There's nobody else in your family in this business, right? Matt: No, I'm the only one. It's nice. They're very supportive of what I do. You know it's exciting. (Matt stretches and leans back in his seat.) At first, I don't think they got it. They go "okay" cause I come from a family of athletes. BH: Oh, I know! When I got my first TV show, I called my oldest brother and I said, "Hey, I got a TV show" and he said, "Who told you that?" (Matt and the audience laugh.) Because of my family. What are you talking about? It's us. We're from the neighborhood. That stuff doesn't happen. Matt: Yes. BH: They must get a big kick out of it. Matt: They do. They have a lot of fun with it. It's like especially my brother and sister in high school so their friends all watch the show and it's funny. To them, I'm still their older brother, Matt. You know, they don't… BH: Well, of course, yeah. I mean don't they like all call you when they're watching the show? Matt: They like to call me after the show especially Grandma gives her opinion on that episode on that week. BH: That's bad. Matt: "So I really think that Kyle should…" you know, and she gives me, you know, what she thinks about what happened in the show. Any time I do another project or a movie or anything like that, she'll call to tell me what she thinks the next step should be.
BH: Let me tell you something. If they let all the grandmas write the scripts in television, (Matt takes a drink) we'll get some eyepiece and solid entertainment out there. (Audience laughs and claps.) Matt (laughs): I agree and that's what Grandma believes too. BH: So when you go on tours to promote the show, I know that you've gone to Europe and you spent an interesting experience. Matt: The Europeans press is a little bit different and it's always kind of interesting because you never know what you're going to get. BH: Yeah, right and they're really tabloid-oriented. Matt: I was in France. This was my favorite one. I was in France and the reporters were shooting out all different kinds of rumors and tabloids and things they've heard, but the funniest one was that David Hasselholf was my father. (Audience laughs.) BH: Wait a minute. This was a rumor? Matt: They thought that David Hasselholf was my father.
BH: You look a little bit like him. (Matt smiles and places his left arm on the back of the seat) And really how does your real father,... Matt: Not in a bathing suit. BH: George Hamilton, feel about it? (Audience laughs and claps. Matt laughs) Sorry about the rumor. Matt (touches his left and right cheeks): Am I that tan? BH: No, you're not that tan. (Matt looks down.) Are you looking at this? Because you have to tell the audience you're so nice to bring this. Matt (picks up a script): Oh, we can talk about this. BH: You want to. (She holds up Season 2 DVD.) First of all, Season 2 of Kyle XY has just been released on DVD for everyone in the audience. (Audience claps.) And the third season is going to premiere Monday on January 12, right? Matt: Yes, January 12. BH: On ABC Family. That's pretty exciting. Matt: I guess this is for your Bonnie Basement, yes. So it will be auction off. (He holds the script.) This is actually the original pilot script from Kyle XY . So I'll sign this. I'm going to sign one of those as well (indicating the DVD).
BH: That's pretty generous. (Matt beams.) Do you have any New Year's Resolution before you leave? (She moves their cups away.) Matt: My New Year's Resolution. I think, this year, I guess I want to spend more time with my family. I'm not big on like, you know, I'm going to eat healthier and quit drinking or anything like that because I - BH: You're obviously out of control. Matt: It's a huge problem. You know, any kind of those things I usually just do. Spending more time with my family is my New Year's Resolution. BH: That's a nice thing because I think, you know, … (Audience claps.) nobody at the end of their life says, "I wish I spent more time at the office". Matt: Exactly, exactly.
BH: Right. Matt: And it's hard. Because you just spend so much time working in this business. BH: It's this business that way. Matt: It's this business. When you go on location, lots of time it's impossible to get home so I'm excited. BH: I think that's a wise resolution from a fine young man. We'll be right back. (Audience claps as the camera pulls back.) |
